Child support is an important factor in a divorce or custody case. It ensures that your children have the financial support they need and deserve from both parents. The Texas Legislature has set forth guidelines for support based on what is best for your children. At Albano Law, we guide you through the process of child support, and ensure your rights are being protected.
Calculating Child Support in Texas
The Texas Legislature has set up guidelines for child support payments that require the obligor, the parent who is paying child support, to pay a minimum of 20 percent of his or her net monthly income for one child up to a certain income amount and taking into consideration the needs of the child. With each additional child, the percentage is raised by five percent up to 50%. In certain circumstances, or where there are other children not before the court who also require support, these guidelines may be altered. Contact our law firm to discuss your concerns regarding child support.
Collecting on Past-Due Child Support
After the court has made a ruling as to the amount of child support, the obligor (the person ordered to pay) must make payments according to the ruling. If you and your child are owed child support but have not been paid everything that you are due, Albano Law can help. We advocate for your children's right to financial support by all legal means necessary.
Modification
There may come a time after your divorce settlement where the needs of the child, or your or the other parent's financial circumstance have changed significantly. If there has been a significant increase or decrease in either of your income or circumstances, or in the needs of the child, you might be entitled to a modification of child support payments. There are many details to review in such cases. Working with our qualified law firm can help you obtain the modification that you and your children deserve.
